Star Wars + PowerBot.
Over the last decade, Samsung has struggled to gain market share in the robotic vacuum product space. Competitors have held the upper hand in consumer reviews, product quality, and market visibility. But in 2017, Samsung's product team decided to tackle those challenges and develop new ideas for the vacuum's product design.
The company had already created a new line of robot vacuums in 2016 and while they were favorably received with consumers, their visibility in the market was not great enough. Then one observation during a marketing meeting unearthed the strong visual connection between the new vacuums' design and two of the most iconic characters in Star Wars: Darth Vader and his Stormtroopers.
In October 2017, Samsung introduced two new, limited edition Star Wars versions of the widely acclaimed POWERbot vacuum cleaner, the VR7000. They are the result of collaboration between Samsung's product design, UX, and marketing teams, and Star Wars fans around the globe. The innovative and powerful vacuums are intended to captivate fans in anticipation of the December release of "Star Wars: The Last Jedi," the final film in the Disney and Lucas Films saga.
